Working across three continents in 15 countries, MiCT collaborates with media professionals to promote transparency, inclusivity, and resilient societies. Our activities include journalist training, content and program development, radio and film production, publishing, media research, monitoring, and supporting the financial sustainability of our partners.
About the Program
The MiCT Critical Voices Fellowship targets media professionals from conflict-affected countries who demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical journalism. The fellowship focuses on journalists from Afghanistan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Sudan, and Myanmar, with a global perspective.
Fellows receive:
- Financial and health support
- Guidance on personal safety
- Online and in-person training
- Legal and psychosocial assistance
- Production and content support
- Access to an international network of media professionals
Role Overview
MiCT is seeking a freelance Community Manager fluent in Arabic to assist with program implementation and support for Fellows from Sudan and East Africa. This role involves up to 10 working days per month and includes:
- Coordinating onboarding processes for all Fellows, including assessing needs and introducing exiled journalists to their host environment
- Collecting required documents and providing accurate Arabic translations
- Providing Arabic interpretation during meetings and calls
- Assisting with the applicant vetting process and final selection of Fellows
- Setting up and moderating social media channels for the fellowship community
- Serving as the primary point of contact for Fellows on program matters, including personal, financial, and production support
- Supporting the production work of exiled journalists where applicable
- Coordinating closely with local and international partners
- Attending regular meetings with Fellows and the MiCT headquarters team in Berlin
Requirements
- Proven experience working with journalists in crisis or conflict settings
- Strong understanding of the international media landscape, with focus on Sudan and neighboring countries preferred
- Fluency in Arabic and English
- Ideally based in or near Nairobi for on-site collaboration
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Familiarity with exile and crisis journalism, media freedom, and ethical development communication
- Experience organizing media-related events or training sessions
- Journalism background is an advantage
- Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented
