Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Basic literacy is required.
- A valid Tanzanian driving license (Class D) is mandatory.
Experience:
- At least 2 years of proven driving experience.
- Experience with 4×4 vehicles is an asset.
- Prior work with MSF or other NGOs is highly desirable.
Languages:
- Fluent in English and Swahili (both spoken and written).
Position Objective
To coordinate and safely operate MSF vehicles within designated locations, ensuring compliance with local traffic laws and MSF’s safety protocols. The driver is also expected to support the logistics team and transport passengers and goods reliably and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily checks on vehicle condition: tires, fuel, oil, brakes, radio equipment, etc.
- Complete weekly technical inspections and keep the vehicle clean and in optimal condition.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, adherence to speed limits, traffic regulations, and MSF safety guidelines.
- Verify all passengers carry proper documentation and that non-MSF passengers sign liability waivers.
- Oversee the loading/unloading of goods, ensure proper documentation is submitted and returned.
- Ensure all vehicle documents and driver’s license are valid and available in the vehicle.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, or security concerns to the supervisor.
- Operate communication equipment (radio) and maintain regular contact with the base.
- Comply with MSF vehicle movement rules, particularly at checkpoints, customs, and roadblocks.
- Ensure passengers are briefed on safety rules and that these rules are followed.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and commitment.
- Ability to work under pressure (stress management) and within a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics is an advantage.
- Familiarity with roads and routes in the operational area.
- Good eyesight is essential.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight outside of duty station.
